Founded by the Jesuits in February 1665, the Trait-Carré de Charlesbourg represents the first attempt at colonization not centered on a great way of water. That new system astonishes by its originality. Its star configuration differs from the known models by conferring each piece a trapezoidal form.
Le Moulin des Jésuites (Mill of the Jesuits) was set up in about 1740 on an ancestral plot of land of the Lefebvre family. A traditional construction with attic windows, pinion and roof of shingles. Through the years, it became a matches manufacture, a forging mill shop, a cartwright workshop and a decorative iron factory. This patrimonial building has lately found back its old time look. This remarkable restoration concretized from 1990 to 1992 and thus allowed its reopening in March 1993, this time as an interpretation center of the history of the Trait-Carré and starting point of the pedestrian circuit of Old Charlesbourg. Moreover, this old mill offers temporary exhibitions on themes related to the mills, the old techniques and new technologies.
The Moulin des Jésuites represents an original alternative to set activities of all kind. You can easily rent a room or a whole floor with a lot of commodities.
Located at a significant crossroad, East-West direction between Quebec and the Montmorency falls and North-South between Quebec and Saguenay, the tourist office is very accessible. You can get any information regarding the activities of the Moulin, the Trait-Carré and Quebec city.
